Returning Overseas Filipino Worker (OFWs) now have the chance to apply for the courses available at the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) which they can do at the airport. There are several international airports in the country and these are found in Pampanga, Cebu, Davao, General Santos, Iloilo, Aklan, Ilocos Norte, Manila and Palawan. OFWs passing through these international airports can apply for the TESDA Tech-Voc courses.
The OFW Help Desk in the International airports was built last May this year but it already helped out about 1,500 OFWs. They particularly helped out many OFWs coming from the Middle East. The help desk entertains many questions about the course, the skills training and how to renew the national certificate. The TESDA Tech-Voc courses are open to OFWs for free. The tuition fee is free and they can even get allowance for joining the course and also allowance for the materials to be used which is already a good deal. TESDA officials stated that by giving this free course, OFWs can time with the family while earning. This becomes a way for them not to work abroad anymore since many OFWs become depressed when they work away from home due to homesickness and abuse from employers.
This is a great way for them to start a new life here in the Philippines with their respective families and doing the things they want. Their families in turn become very happy to especially for children who wishes to be with their parents as they grow or parents who wish to see their kids live with them as the reach old age. The program of TESDA can make the dreams of OFWs to stay here in the country a reality and the best thing is that it’s free.
