How to Join the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology


The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology is under the umbrella of the Department of the Interior and Local Government. The BJMP is mandated to safe keep and protect all the municipal, city, and district inmates.


General qualifications for Jail Officer 1

Anyone who is interested to be part of the Bureau of Jail and Penology and be appointed as Jail Officer 1 must possess the following qualifications:

  • Must be a bonafide citizen of the Philippines
  • Must be of good moral character
  • Must completed a baccalaureate degree from a recognized school/college/university
  • Must pass the medical examination, neuro-psychiatric assessment, and drug test
  • Must have civil service eligibility
  • Must not be dismissed from previous employment
  • Must not be convicted with a crime that involves moral turpitude
  • Must be 21 to 30 years old, but a waiver is granted to applicants that belong to cultural communities
  • Male applicants must be 1.62 m in height, while female applicants should be 1.57 m in height
  • The weight must be proportional to the age, sex, and height

If you think that you possess all the qualifications mentioned above, the next thing to do is to prepare and secure all the requirements including the following:

  • Duly completed revised personal data sheet
  • Two pieces’ current passport size photo with name tag
  • Original college diploma/transcript of records
  • NSO issued birth certificate
  • Civil service certificate of eligibility or board rating
  • Latest CTC and clearances (Barangay, Police, NBI, and others)
  • Certificate of trainings/seminars attended
  • Certificate of employment (present and previous)
  • Certificate of trainings/seminars attended
  • Marriage certificate (for married applicants)

Once you have passed the medical and neuro-psychiatric exam, the training will start. After a few months of training, the monthly salary are as follows:

  • Jail Officer I = 21,771
  • Jail Officer II = 23,513
  • Jail Officer III = 25,394
  • Jail Officer IV = 27,425

Before deciding to apply in BJMP, you must be ready to undergo rigorous physical training and education training as well.
